Chemical Threat

What is a Chemical Threat?

A chemical threat is the release of toxic gases, liquids, or solids which can poison all forms of life, which includes the human and animal population as well as the environment in they live in.

What kind of signs can we look for with a chemical threat?

Signs of a chemical threat may be more apparent than a biological threat.  The most common signs of chemical exposure are:

  • watery eyes
  • twitching
  • choking
  • respiratory difficulty
  • loss of coordination

Another sign may be sick or dead birds, fish, or other types of animals.

What do I do if I suspect a chemical threat?

If you suspect a chemical threat, leave the area immediately and get yourself in a safe surrounding.  If you believe you've been exposed to the chemical itself, get to your nearest water source, wash as thoroughly as possible, and seek medical attention immediately.

Contact your local emergency services to report a suspected chemical threat.
