What are Natural Disasters? |
|
Natural Disasters are
completely out of our control and are
decided by Mother Nature, that usually
causes a significant amount of damage in any
location of our earth. The areas in
which natural disasters occur, are usually
widespread areas, although, natural
disasters can effect very small areas as
well. The amount of damage in a
specified area is determined by the type of
natural occurrence.

types of Natural Disasters that occur all
over this world. The most commonly
known are as follows: |

- Landslides/Mudslides
- Tornados
- Wildfires

| Preparing for a Natural
Disaster will truly depend on where you
live. Since Cayuga County is located
in Upstate New York, our chances of a
hurricane in less likely than someone living
in the state of Florida. Knowing what
types of Natural Disasters that can occur in
your location is truly the key to preparing
for one. |

| Here in Cayuga County, the types of Natural
Disasters most likely to occur are floods,
thunder and lightning storms, snow and ice
storms.

What do I do if a natural disaster occurs? |
|
Natural disasters can
happen at any moment, but in today's day and
age, most can be predicted by local and
national weather centers as well as the
severity of the storms. When a severe
storm is on it's way and you begin seeing the
effects of the storm, the best thing to do
is to find good solid shelter. In our
area, it will most likely be our homes.
Many instances, loss of power due to downed
power lines from lightning, blown down trees
are our common side effects from severe
storms. Get your emergency
and first aid supplies ready for use.
