This regular meeting was called to order at 7:40 pm by Supervisor Chuck Howell with the following present:

MOTION:                   To accept the minutes of the May 9, 2007 meeting as written.  (Goodnough/Buckhout). All in favor.

 

GUESTS:                        Kezia Parseghian reported on the Southern Cayuga Instant Aid Ambulance’s challenges in providing qualified staffing, and said the area towns’ financial support is needed.  She distributed more written information, and offered to come to the Town’s regular July 11th meeting to answer questions and discuss the situation further.

 

                        Justice Robin Brown distributed copies of a grant request for $7,050.00 for justice software, office supplies, and furnishings.    She reported that she has accepted a full-time job and will not be able to run for the office of Town Justice in the upcoming election.  There was discussion of some of the problems with the Justice System, both on the state and local level. 

 

COMMUNICATIONS:

a.            Court fees received $2080.00

b.            Septic Inspection due

c.            Land Claim meeting 6 pm June 13th

d.            Cayuga County Proposed Local Law on Real Property Exemption

e.            County Planning reported Town not eligible as sponsor for Allen Farms

f.            Letter from Union Springs re: Indian Land Claim

 

OLD BUSINESS:  

MOTION:                   To schedule a Public Hearing for Local Law 1 of 2007 to bring the Town of Scipio

into compliance with the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program

(Whitten/Buckhout).  All in favor.

 

Supervisor Howell reported that the truck brought $23,700.00 at the May 12th auction. 

 

The Board discussed the position of assessor. 

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

MOTION:                   To approve the audit of the Town Supervisor’s, Tax Collector’s, and Justice Brown’s Books. (Howell/Whitten)  All in favor.

 

There was discussion regarding Justice Brown’s idea of having one justice and one court clerk.

Supervisor Howell will check with Attorney Thurston regarding this. 

 

RESOLUTION:        To authorize submission of the application for Justice Court Grant.

(Howell/Rury).  All in favor.

 

There was discussion regarding the Instant Aid Ambulance’s financial difficulties, and ways of encouraging volunteerism.

 

 

MOTION:                               To accept and approve the following vouchers for payment:         

                                    General:   Vouchers #   91-105               $   7,983.95                     

                                    Highway:  Vouchers #  37-44              $118,195.15

                                    TOTAL                                               $126,179.10

                                    (Goodnough/Whitten).  All in favor.

 

MOTION:            To adjourn the meeting at 10:07 pm. (Buckhout/Goodnough).  All in favor.
