This regular meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Supervisor Keith Batman who welcomed all those present:
Supervisor: Keith Batman, Council Members: Mark Malys. Greg Rury, Gary Whitten.
Others: Ron Walter, George Fearon, Keith Welch, Tom Olenych, Judith Rowlands
Excused: Gary Goodnough
MOTION: To accept the minutes of the April 8, 2009 meeting and April 15, 2009 public hearing as written. (Whitten/Rury). All in favor.
GUESTS: Tom Olenych asked about town eligibility for grants. Keith said he and Ron looked
into it, but we do not have any highway projects that qualify at this time. There may be funding
available for bringing broadband to the area. He reported that an internet option through fiber and
electric lines was presented, but he has not heard further from the company representative. The
committee is still in contact with clarity connect.
HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: Ron Walter reported that the pick-up truck
brought $24,000 at auction, so the town will receive $23,500.
SUPERVISOR’S REPORT:
Keith distributed a letter from NYS ORPS for the board to read. The watershed towns have been
meeting monthly, and will probably pursue watershed grants. The board approved asking
Watershed Inspector Jessica Miles to come and share information at an upcoming board meeting.
Clean-up Day was so well-attended that an extra roll-off had to be brought on Monday for the
overflow. Sales Tax for the quarter (est. $95,000) was received. Keith has been in contact with
Zoning Officer Mike O’Connor regarding removal of the abandoned trailers on Center Road.
County Legislator George Fearon reported that his website has been updated, and the Allen &
Dumond farms have been approved to received an estimate $2.3 million in Farmland protection
awards. On June 17 the Bureau of Indian Affairs is holding a meeting regarding putting land in
trust. Resident input and response is needed, as this affects the whole county.
RESOLUTION: To move forward with the purchase of a plow truck as approved after the public hearing April 15, 2009, as long as no appropriate petition is received by close of business Monday May 18th. (Whitten/Malys). All in favor.
RESOLUTION: That the town cover the balance of Roger Ward’s final health insurance payment (est. $40). (Whitten/Rury). All in favor.
The Watershed Annual Report was distributed. Also distributed were two news articles reporting Town Historian Sandie Gilliland’s achievement, most recently being registered by the Association of Public Historians of New York State. The Board commended Sandie for her diligence.
MOTION: To accept and approve the following vouchers for payment:
General: Vouchers # 68-91 $15,898.61
Highway: Vouchers # 8-16 $13,435.36 (voucher #’s corrected to 30-38)
TOTAL $29,333.97
