  • Plant Characteristics

    • Plant-like algae

    • Submersed plant with long uneven branches that look angular at each joint

    • Branches feel smooth and look like green gelatin

    • May have one cream colored bulb at teh base of each cluster of branches

    • Often found in a mass of plants including coontail, duckweed and others

    • Sometimes found in deep slow moving water where other plants are scarce

    • First discovered in the Great Lakes in the St. Lawrence River
